Why low-resolution images can be tricky and how to get the best results
Understanding the issue
Let’s Enhance is designed to make your images look sharper, clearer, and ready for use at larger sizes. But if the original file is very small or lacks detail, the result might not look as realistic as you expect.
What “low resolution” means
Low-resolution images usually have:
- Tiny pixel dimensions (for example, 100×100px logos or profile pics)
- Strong compression (like images saved and re-sent many times)
- Little visible detail (blurry or noisy photos)
When you upload this type of image, our technology doesn’t have much visual information to build on. That’s why the result can look too smooth lacking details.
How to improve your results
💡 Here are some quick tips that usually help:
- Use the highest-quality original you have
Always upload the biggest, clearest version available.
- Avoid already upscaled files
If the image has been upscaled or resized (stretched) somewhere else, try reverting to the original size first. Previously resized copies can confuse the enhancement process.
- Choose the right mode
Balanced – great for general photos and compressed images
Strong (+ Enhance Faces) – works best for blurry portraits or noisy, under-2.5 MP pictures
Gentle – helps with images that include text or fine details
- For print
Use the print presets for quick one-click optimization. Just avoid applying them to heavily blurred originals, since presets can’t fully restore lost details.
The takeaway
Low-resolution images aren’t impossible to fix, but results depend on what you start with. Whenever possible, upload the best original you have, then pick the mode that matches your image type. This way, you’ll get the clearest and most realistic enhancements.
